Il celebre cantautore inglese si è esibito con The Empty Chair, tratto dal documentario Jim: The James Foley Story. La canzone è tra i brani candidati all’Oscar 2017 come Miglior canzone originale. Per Sting si tratta della quarta nomination all’Oscar per la Miglior canzone originale. Le nomination precedenti sono state nel 2001 per Le follie dell’imperatore, nel 2002 per la commedia romantica Kate & Leopold e infine nel 2004 per Ritorno a Cold Mountain. La quarta nomination è arrivata a ben 13 anni di distanza dall’ultima, per l’intenso documentario dedicato a James Foley, un giornalista americano ucciso dall’ISIS nel 2014. Ralph non è tra i favoriti per la vittoria dell’ambita statuetta, ma di certo la performance ha saputo ribadire l’incredibile talento dell’artista britannico.
