Harry Styles è un album molto distante sia a livello musicale che di testi dai brani degli One Direction e se Sign of the Times parla del dolore di una madre morente che dà l’ultimo saluto al figlio appena nato e Kiwi con tutta probabilità parla di Louis Tomlinson, Two Ghosts potrebbe invece parlare di Taylor Swift. Nel testo della canzone si fa infatti riferimento “alle labbra rosse” (Taylor Swift usa sempre il rossetto rosso) e a due persone ormai distanti l’uno dall’altro. Per chi non lo ricordasse, Taylor e Harry sono stati insieme per pochi mesi tra la fine del 2012 e gennaio 2013, ma la storia è stata di dominio pubblico e Tay Tay ha dedicato più di una sua canzone al bel 23enne (come Style e Out of the Woods). Che Harry Styles abbia ricambiato il favore? Stamani, in un’intervista alla BBC Radio 1, il conduttore Nick Grimshaw ha posto direttamente la domanda a Harry, il quale ha risposto rimanendo sul vago. “Penso che si spieghi da sola [la canzone]”, ha risposto il cantante, “parla di qualcosa che cambia, ma tu continui a fare le stesse cose, ma tutto in realtà è diverso”. Alla fine, Nick Grimshaw ha fatto partire Tho Ghosts annunciandola come “la canzone su Taylor Swift”, a cui Harry Styles ha reagito con un sonoro “No”, seppur avendo un sorriso sornione sulal faccia.
